Kansas City Southern de Mexico’s Northeast Railway, with its Line “F”, is a major rail connection linking Monterrey with Matamoros and the United States border in northeastern Mexico. Inaugurated in 1888, it has played a vital role in freight and passenger transportation, contributing to the region’s economic development. The Matamoros railway bypass project was developed with the objective of improving the connectivity and efficiency of rail transportation in the region, while reducing congestion and enhancing safety in downtown Matamoros. It consisted of the construction of an alternative railway line that bypasses the city center, thereby avoiding the passage of trains through the urban area. The Matamoros railway bypass represents the first rail connection built between Mexico and the United States in the last one hundred years. The project begins at the connection with Line “F” Monterrey–Matamoros and extends to the crossing point at the Rio Grande, passing through the International Railway Bridge at the border with Brownsville County, Texas. The main track is 10.4 km long, and the project includes a 20.3 km track yard covering an area of 52 hectares, administrative facilities, customs inspection services, and workshops. Three overpasses and a railway underpass were also constructed. Construction of the Matamoros–Brownsville Railway Bypass
