The Mexico–Toluca Interurban Train is a railway infrastructure project aimed at improving the connection between Mexico City and the city of Toluca, the capital of the State of Mexico. This new double-track line features four intermediate stations and is expected to benefit thousands of people who commute daily between these two major cities. The contract covers the supply, installation, and commissioning of rolling stock, railway systems, communications systems, ticketing, control center, tunnel and viaduct electromechanical systems, track, power systems and the construction of two 25 kV traction substations and technical buildings along the Mexico–Toluca Interurban Train line. Currently, more than 700,000 people travel daily between Mexico City and Toluca. This project serves an estimated demand of 270,000 users and aims to reduce connection and traffic issues between both urban areas, overcoming the significant elevation differences between the two cities. It serves as the backbone of regional and urban transport, helping organize and optimize both urban and rural mobility. The environmental impacts generated by the construction of this project are minimal and low-intensity, as most of the alignment runs through urban or already disturbed areas and is built on an elevated viaduct. The project’s design and characteristics have been adapted to meet mobility demand while minimizing environmental effects in areas that still maintain good ecological conditions. It is therefore a project that respects its surrounding environment. With the train in operation, more than 27,000 tons of CO₂ will no longer be emitted each year, equivalent to the oxygen produced by 225 hectares of forest, and up to 400 road accidents per year will be avoided on the Mexico–Toluca highway.
