Construcciones Urales, subsidiary of Azvi, has carried out track laying works on Line K, which connects Ixtepec (Oaxaca) with Ciudad Hidalgo (Chiapas) along 447 km, as well as on Line KA, 13.8 km long, which links Tapachula with the Port of Chiapas. This railway corridor is part of the strategic Corredor Interoceánico del Istmo de Tehuantepec project, designed to become a global logistics axis connecting the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic, boosting both freight and passenger transport. The main objective has been to modernize the infrastructure to achieve higher operating speeds, reducing transport times, improving travel comfort, and minimizing maintenance costs. On Line K, the works covered from km 0+000 to km 447+286 and included: On Line KA, the works include the construction of the complete branch line connecting to the Port of Chiapas, with a length of 13.8 km. After completing the manufacture of 345 thousand sleepers for Section 3 of the Tren Maya, the automated Poxilá plant (Yucatán) of Construcciones Urales produced the 300 thousand units required for Lines K and KA. This facility featured a carousel system capable of producing up to 1,600 sleepers per day and had a high-capacity concrete plant (40 m³/h). Production continues in 2025 to complete the supply. On Section 1 of Line K, the installation of 175 km of track and 3 sidings has been carried out, together with installation works on railway structures. During the tests on the section between Ixtepec and Tonalá, the Tren Interoceánico successfully operated, verifying the proper execution of the track, drainage works, signaling, and stations. Supervision was carried out by the Corredor Interoceánico del Istmo de Tehuantepec (CIIT), the FIT, and the Secretaría de Marina (SEMAR). This project modernizes a strategic railway infrastructure for Mexico, improving regional connectivity, boosting trade, and attracting new investments. In addition, it will reduce logistics costs and directly benefit key sectors such as industry, agriculture, and tourism, as well as thousands of users who will have access to a faster, safer, and more efficient railway service.
