Modernization of the Patzcuaro–Lazaro Cardenas Section

Modernization of the Patzcuaro–Lazaro Cardenas section began in early 2013.

With a range of works carried out along its 266 km length.

After calculating the remaining service life of the existing pavement, works involved either the application of a new wearing course with thicknesses between 4 and 8 cm, or a surface treatment known as chip seal using modified bitumen was used.

A four-duct conduit for fibre optics was also installed beneath the hard shoulder to support an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), improving user safety in an area with low population density, particularly in the Sierra Madre region.

Finally, four toll plazas were modernised, including the construction of administrative buildings, two restrooms per plaza, replacement of all toll booths, and upgrading of toll system installations.
