Maintenance and preservation works have been carried out on the MEX-180 federal toll-free highway section, a strategic corridor that connects the states of Campeche and Yucatán. A total of 175.41 km of roadway have been upgraded, ensuring the operability, safety, and quality of one of the most important transportation routes on the Yucatán Peninsula. The preservation phase began in September 2018 and included both routine maintenance and major rehabilitation works, with a comprehensive approach covering everything from pavement structure to right-of-way upkeep and user assistance. During the initial phase of the contract (2018 to 2020), rehabilitation works were carried out simultaneously with routine maintenance activities. The latter includes two Major Maintenance periods throughout the life of the contract. The first was already completed between 2022 and 2023, and the second will run from October 2025 to July 2026 to ensure the remaining service life of the pavement during the three years following the completion of the contract in May 2029. Currently, preservation and maintenance works are being carried out under a PPP (Public-Private Partnership) scheme. Major maintenance activities focused on rehabilitating and optimizing the roadway infrastructure through milling, cement stabilization, and asphalt overlay replacement. They also included micro-milling and the application of micro-surfacing to improve smoothness, friction, and safety, as well as the placement of a premixed seal coat and the complete renewal of road signage and delineation. The maintenance of the MEX-180 has been essential for ensuring safe and efficient mobility between Campeche and Mérida, benefiting freight transportation, tourism, and regional connectivity.
